Course Overview

The Skills Challenge certificate aims to enable learners to develop and demonstrate an understanding of and proficiency in essential and employability skills. These are the skills that employers and next stage educators value and which learners need for learning, work and life.

The seven essential and employability skills are:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Digital literacy
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Planning and Organisation
  • Creativity and Innovation
  • Personal Effectiveness

Course Entry Requirements

Standard 6th form entry.

To be welcomed back to sixth form you’ll need at least 5 GCSEs graded A* – C, two of which must be English & Mathematics. We offer resit lessons in English & Mathematics if you don’t achieve the required grades.

WJEC Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge

Course Content

Through Welsh Baccalaureate lessons students will engage with three challenges and an individual project. Each will require students to focus on skill development either as an individual or as part of a team. Students are assessed on their work in the four different areas. To achieve an A Level grade for the  Skills Challenge Certificate, students must also achieve GCSE Maths/Numeracy, GCSE English and two A Level or other Level 3 equivalent qualifications. Grades available are A* – E.
