Studying A-level Chemistry allows us to understand the material world around us. Chemistry is involved in all that we do and studying this course allows us to see how our day to day lives are influenced by Chemistry, as well as allowing us to respond to the changing needs of our Society.
Chemistry A-level is a well-respected subject by universities and employers alike. It is the foundation of a large range of science-based degree courses and careers. Studying Chemistry builds a range of transferable skills such as research, problem-solving, analysis, teamwork and communication skills, all of which are highly prized by prospective employers.

Minimum of B grade in Chemistry/Double Award Science
Pupils will sit 2 written examinations at the end of the first year (AS). Combined these papers contribute 40% to the final grade. At the end of the second A2, Year Pupils will sit two written paper examinations worth 50% of the final grade along with an Practical Examination contributing 10% of the final grade.
During the first year of the course pupils will study ‘Language of Chemistry, structure of matter and simple reactions’ and ‘Energy, rate and Chemistry of Carbon compounds’. The second year involves the study of ‘Physical and Inorganic Chemistry’ and ‘Organic Chemistry and Analysis’. Throughout the two year course pupils will also complete a series of Compulsory Practical Investigations.
