English Literature is a useful introduction to further study of linguistics and literature and is a qualification that can open doors to many careers and higher/ further education course. This course will provide you with the skills you need for effective and sophisticated written and spoken communication and offers opportunities for you to develop your subject expertise by engaging creatively, critically and independently with a wide range of texts. You will learn to use literary and linguistic concepts and methods to analyse literary and non-literary texts from a range of modes and genres. You will develop your skills as writers and your skills in analysis and interpretation.
Minimum grade ‘C’ in English Language & Literature GCSE.
The course comprises 5 units and the studies of the text are chosen by the school.
AS – Year 12
Unit 1 – Prose & Drama
Unit 2 – Poetry Post-1900
Units 1 and 2 are each assessed with a 2 hour written examination.
A2 – Year 13
Unit 3 – Poetry Pre-1900
Unit 4 – Shakespeare
Units 3 and 4 are each assessed with a 2 hour written examination.
Unit 5 – Prose Study – 2500-3500 word assignment
