History is important in many areas of life and is highly regarded by employers and universities. It teaches you to weigh up evidence, make decisions, assess arguments and express yourself clearly. This makes it invaluable as preparation for your future career. Through studying History, you will develop a wide range of transferable skills as such, it is a subject that is highly valued by both universities and employers.
Professions that would benefit a qualification in history include; law, journalism, business and finance, publishing, editing, management, politics, teaching as well as many others.

There are no previous learning requirements to study GCSE History. The course builds on subject content which is typically taught at key stage 3 and provides a suitable foundation for the study of history at either AS or A level.
The course is divided into 4 units.
Units 1 to 3 are un-tiered, external examinations and Unit 4 consists of two controlled assessments.
Unit 1: Depression, War and Recovery, 1930 – 1951
Unit 2: The USA: A Nation of Contrasts, 1910 – 1929
Unit 3: Changes in Crime and Punishment, c.1500 – Present Day
Unit 4: The role and significance of Martin Luther King
