Course Overview

The Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (AdvSBW) is an exciting new Level 3 qualification that supports learners to become effective, responsible and active citizens. Learners will develop a range of skills attractive to employers, colleges and universities including:

Embedded Skills

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Digital literacy

Integral Skills

  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Planning and Organisation
  • Creativity and Innovation
  • Personal Effectiveness

Developing these skills will help learners become effective, responsible, and active citizens and can profoundly affect their future success and well-being.

Course Entry Requirements

Standard 6th form entry.

Course Specification:

WJEC Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales
To be welcomed back to sixth form you’ll need at least 5 GCSEs graded A* – C, two of which must be English & Mathematics. We offer resit lessons in English & Mathematics if you don’t achieve the required grades.

Course Content

This two-year course is made up of 3 projects: Global Community Project, Future Destination Project and an Individual Project. Learners will apply the integral skills and develop the 3 embedded skills as they participate in a variety of exciting activities and contexts, based upon the United Nations sustainable development agenda and Wales’ Well-being Goals.

Global Community Project (25%)

Select a global issue to investigate, share your knowledge with others and take part in a community action.

Future Destination Project (25%)

Gain an understanding of yourself, explore future employment and well-being goals, and plan how you can achieve this.

Individual Project (50%)

Plan, manage, and research a topic linked to your future education or career aspirations and create a written dissertation or an artefact.

Assessments can be taken throughout the two-year course with external moderation in January and May.
