Course Overview

This course will introduce you to the dynamic business environment and the importance of entrepreneurial activity in creating business opportunities and sustaining business growth. You will be encouraged to develop an understanding of business in a range of contexts and develop a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants.

You will learn that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives; to generate enterprising and creative approaches to business opportunities, problems and issues; and to become aware of the ethical dilemmas and responsibilities faced by organisations and individuals. During the course you will acquire a range of relevant business and generic skills, including decision making, problem-solving, the challenging of assumptions and critical analysis and you will apply numerical skills in a range of business contexts.

Course Entry Requirements

Standard 6th form entry.

Course Specification:

WJEC GCE AS/A Level in Business Studies
To be welcomed back to sixth form you’ll need at least 5 GCSEs graded A* – C, two of which must be English & Mathematics. We offer resit lessons in English & Mathematics if you don’t achieve the required grades.

Course Content

The A Level qualification is comprised of 4 units, all assessed by written exam:

1. The Business Framework & Functions
2. Business Functions
3. Business Decision Making
4. Business Strategy and Practice

The focus of the course is to nurture an enthusiasm for studying business using contemporary contexts, allowing you to develop a holistic understanding of business issues from a local to global perspective while analysing the strategic, complex and inter-related nature of business issues both nationally and internationally.
