This course is firmly rooted in the skills required to design and make high-quality products. You will be encouraged to be creative and to use your imagination to solve real-world problems. You will learn to identify market needs and opportunities for new products, initiate and develop design solutions, and make and test prototypes and understand the processes to develop and modify designs.
You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding and knowledge of design and technology, including how a product can be developed through the stages of prototyping, realisation and commercial manufacture.
This course builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills established at GCSE and provides a suitable foundation for the study of design and technology or a related area through a range of higher education courses, progression to the next level of vocational qualifications or employment.
Minimum grade ‘B’ in GCSE Product Design/Textiles/Engineering.
This hands-on course will engage you in both practical and theoretical studies covering skills and knowledge in technical principles and design and making principles.
The A Level course comprises four units:
AS Unit 1: Product Design

AS Unit 2: A design and make task
Approx 40 hours
A2 Unit 3: Product Design
Written examination 2 hours 30 minutes
A2 Unit 4: A design and make project
